The SCAPEGOAT

The Scapegoat by William Holman Hunt

A Robert Darwin Mystery

by Fiona J Mackenzie

A young musician stands trial for murder and the guilty sit in judgement on the innocent.

Demented with grief Robert Darwin stands before an altar in a freezing church and tries to make a deal with God. His half-brother, the Reverend Gideon Flint, witnesses this act of betrayal. As a result, twenty years later they are drawn into a dangerous liaison tainted with ambition, love, guilt and revenge.

Trapped between the two warring half-brothers is Levi Capra, Darwin’s estranged son.  Levi is on trial for murder.  Someone has framed him and unless Darwin can find the true killer before it is too late he knows he will lose his son forever.

In his efforts to save Levi, Darwin enters a world of ritual sacrifices, communing with angels and the burning of witches.

Watching from the shadows are the twelve jurors sitting on Levi’s trial.  They are a ‘rum bunch’ as Levi’s QC observes.  Each one has a dark story to tell and in a High Court of law, the guilty are sitting in judgement on the innocent.  They are looking for a scapegoat.
