is an epic four book Steampunk series that travels in airships past the furthest points of the compass and off the edge of time.
The BOREALIS CHRONICLE is the first book in the The AZIMUTHS of TIME series:
Sisi – Elisabeth – Empress of Eos and Chair of the Privilegium, is desperate to find out what has happened to the ghost of her son, Prince Rudolf. But she also needs the answers to some other questions. Like, what does the ghost of an Elizabethan spymaster really want? Who is killing the Mudlarks? And why are airships being consumed by the sky?
Prologue
At a compass bearing that does not exist, through a temporal rift, a creature that should never be takes form. Forged in a place of fearsome heat and biting cold it lies; bound safe within time’s cradle.
Then, high in the heavens colour washed planets align. Crescent shadows cross their soft graffiti over indigo craters and copper dry dust. Dark solstice. The celestial union rips deep at the heart of the oceans.
Deaf guardians slumber on warm beds of avarice, while half a world stares at the inexorable drift. Empty hubris spawns nemesis; at the nadir the terrible creature breaks free.
Mountains split, waves roar, sleek vessels are razed and noble edifices fall, burying old laws and lives in their rubble. In the havoc, the horsemen grow fat.
The hourglass is cracked. Time trickles in blood from a false rainbow of faith.
Then, slowly at first, a spinning wheel turns. The spindle ties swords and the distaff draws spears and four discrete yarns become one single thread.
The treadle works on through the night. And by dawn shining spools dance with the daughter of time. A most original yarn; nurtured by trust, a gossamer memory of those lost, far away.
A handloom waits with a shuttle of cloud, set to marry north to south warp with east to west weft, entwined to an ancient design.
But enemies prevail. Between the blank face of the future and the body of history arc the Azimuths of Time. To triumph, the past and the present need campaign as one; the equinox restored. Then brave minstrels may sing and pale scribes pen their tales around fresh campfires of hope.
The alliance stands fast, and the world holds its breath for a battle like never before.
